FAQ

Questions we
hear the most.

Here are answers to common questions about ThereWhen and the support we provide. If you don’t see your question here, we’re happy to help — just schedule a conversation.

No pressure. No commitments. Just consistent care.

No. ThereWhen is a non-medical companionship and household support service. We spend time with the person you care about, help with everyday needs, notice when something seems off, and keep family members informed.

We do not provide nursing, medical care, medication management, bathing, dressing, or other hands-on personal care.

ThereWhen is designed for older adults who are generally able to live independently — whether they live on their own or alongside family — but could benefit from a familiar person checking in regularly, spending time with them, and helping with the things that make everyday life easier.

It is also for families who want to stay involved without having to wonder how things are going between phone calls and visits.

No two visits are exactly the same.

A visit might include sitting down for coffee and conversation, taking a walk, picking up groceries, helping with a household task, accompanying someone to an appointment, or coordinating something that needs attention around the home.

What matters most is that we come for the person, not the checklist. We spend time with them, help where it is useful, and pay attention to how things are going.

A typical ThereWhen visit lasts about 90 minutes.

That gives us enough time to sit and talk, help with an errand or household need, take a walk, accompany someone to an appointment, or simply spend meaningful time together without the visit feeling rushed.

That’s the goal. We believe familiarity matters, so we prioritize having the same person visit consistently and build a genuine relationship over time.

If your regular companion is unavailable, we will communicate with you and arrange appropriate coverage whenever possible.

Depending on your membership, visits can take place once, twice, or three times per week.

We establish a regular schedule so visits become a familiar part of the week rather than something that has to be arranged each time.

If we notice something that seems unusual or concerning, we do not simply make a note of it and move on. We contact the appropriate family member and explain what we observed.

If there appears to be an immediate emergency or threat to someone’s safety, we will contact emergency services.

ThereWhen does not diagnose medical conditions, but part of showing up consistently is noticing when something has changed.

Every visit ends with an update.

Afterward, we provide a clear summary of how the visit went, what we did together, anything we helped with, and anything we think the family should know.

The goal is simple: you shouldn’t have to call afterward and ask, “How’d it go?”

Yes. Approved family members can access the ThereWhen account, see updates after every visit, and help manage upcoming visits on their loved one’s behalf.

Family members can submit requests, manage ongoing needs, update visit scheduling, and let us know what would be most helpful for an upcoming visit. Afterward, they can see how the visit went, what we did together, and anything we think they should know.

It is designed to make staying involved easier, even when you can’t be there yourself.

ThereWhen is offered as a monthly membership rather than traditional hourly home care.

Memberships are based primarily on how frequently you would like us to visit, with options for one, two, or three visits per week. Current membership pricing can be found on our Membership page.

It starts with a conversation.

We will learn about the person you care about, their routines, personality, preferences, and where a little additional support might make life easier. From there, we will determine whether ThereWhen is a good fit, choose the right membership, and establish a regular visit schedule.

There is no complicated assessment or sales process. We simply want to understand the person before we begin showing up for them.

You can count on us.

We take the responsibility of being welcomed into someone’s home seriously. Every companion is carefully screened, prepared, and supported so families can feel confident in the person showing up.
